Nerve Pain Supplement Ingredients: The Common Names, Decoded
Nerve supplements repeat a short list of names: B vitamins, alpha-lipoic acid, carnitine, magnesium, coenzyme Q10 and turmeric. Each has a different history and a different caution. A name on a label says little without the form and the amount, which many labels leave out.

Which ingredients appear most often on nerve supplement labels?
A few names turn up again and again: vitamins B12 and B6, alpha-lipoic acid, a carnitine, coenzyme Q10 and turmeric. Each carries its own caution.
| Name | Usually sold for | A caution from the sources |
|---|---|---|
| Vitamin B12 | Nerve health, when low | A blood test shows if you are low(NIH ODS, Vitamin B12 (HP)) |
| Vitamin B6 | Nerve health | Very high intake for long can itself harm nerves(NIH ODS, Vitamin B6 (HP)) |
| Alpha-lipoic acid | Diabetic nerve symptoms | Can lower blood sugar; tell your provider(MSK, Alpha-Lipoic Acid) |
| Carnitine | Cell energy | About 3 g a day can cause nausea and cramps(NIH ODS, Carnitine (HP)) |
| Turmeric extract | General wellness | Rare liver injury has been reported(LiverTox, Turmeric) |
How do the six FlowNerves names compare?
FlowNerves names magnesium glycinate, alpha lipoic acid, butcher's broom, L-carnitine, turmeric extract and coenzyme Q10. Four overlap with the aisle list. Butcher's broom is the odd one out, because its research concerns leg veins and no source links it to nerves.(MSK, Butcher's Broom)
- 01Magnesium glycinateMagnesium bound to the amino acid glycineamount not printedA needed mineral; sold for sleep, muscles and calm
- 02Alpha lipoic acidA sulfur-containing antioxidant the body also makes in small amountsamount not printedSold for blood sugar and nerve comfort; the best-known nerve studies are in diabetes

The numbers are the order of the seller's list, which we cannot confirm is weight order. The hatched bar stands for an amount the seller has not printed; it is not a measurement. Studies of single ingredients say nothing about this capsule.
The label lists no B12 or B6.
Why does the form of an ingredient matter?
Two products can share a name and differ in form. Trials in diabetic neuropathy used acetyl-L-carnitine, while FlowNerves lists plain L-carnitine.(Sima 2005, acetyl-L-carnitine in diabetic neuropathy) The label also does not say which turmeric form it uses, and curcumin is poorly absorbed on its own.(Anand 2007, curcumin bioavailability)
Before you compare two bottles, check three things:
- Does each name have an amount, or only a blend total?
- Is the form named?
- Does the front claim match the panel?
Only the front reached us, so we cannot answer the first for FlowNerves. Our guide on proprietary blends explains why an unprinted amount is a gap.

| Count | 30 capsules per bottle |

FAQ01
FlowNerves questions people ask
Which nerve supplement ingredient has the most research?
Alpha-lipoic acid has the most trials in diabetic neuropathy, yet a 2024 Cochrane review found it probably has little or no effect on symptoms at six months.(Cochrane 2024, ALA for diabetic neuropathy)
Do nerve supplements need to list every ingredient?
Names must be listed, but a proprietary blend may skip each amount, so a label can name an ingredient and hide its dose.
Is a longer ingredient list a better nerve supplement?
No. A longer list can mean smaller amounts of each name and more chances for an interaction.
