Turmeric Extract in FlowNerves: What 95% Curcuminoids Does Not Tell You
Turmeric extract is the fifth name the seller lists for FlowNerves, and the sales brief says 95% curcuminoids. That figure describes the extract, not how much is in a capsule, and no amount is printed. National health sources say we do not know enough to call turmeric helpful, and it carries blood thinner and liver cautions.

The one number01
What does 95% curcuminoids mean?
Turmeric extract is the only name on the list with any figure next to it, and the figure is on the seller's side. The sales brief says 95% curcuminoids. We could not read the sales page itself, so we attribute the wording to the brief.
Curcuminoids are the yellow compounds in turmeric, with curcumin the best known. The figure says how concentrated the extract is. It does not say how much extract, or how much curcumin, is in one capsule. A 95% extract in a tiny amount is a tiny dose of curcuminoids, and the label shows no amount.
| Name on the sales list | Turmeric Extract |
|---|---|
| What it is | Extract of the turmeric root; the sales page says 95% curcuminoids |
| Amount per capsule | Named by the seller; no milligrams printed |
| Amount used in research | Studies use a wide range of curcumin amounts; the amount in FlowNerves is not printed |
| Strength of evidence | Lab and small human studies; curcumin is poorly absorbed on its own; nothing shows it changes nerve symptoms in this product |
| Usually sold for | Sold for inflammation and joints |
| Main caution | May raise bleeding risk with blood thinners; rare liver injury reports; people with gallbladder problems should ask a doctor first. |
Raw turmeric versus extract02
How strong is a 95% extract?
Whole turmeric extracts contain only about 1% to 6% curcuminoids by dry weight, and the content varies a lot between products.(LiverTox, Turmeric) No source we read defines "95%" for a supplement. By our reading it is a concentrate, which makes it stronger per gram than the spice in your kitchen. That is an inference, and we flag it as one.
Stronger per gram is not the same as stronger per capsule, and it is not the same as better. It does raise the questions that matter next: absorption and safety.
Absorption03
Does the body absorb curcumin well?
Not on its own. A review found that curcumin has poor bioavailability because it is poorly absorbed, rapidly broken down and rapidly eliminated.(Anand 2007, curcumin bioavailability) Makers raise absorption in several ways, such as adding black pepper (piperine), liposomes or phospholipid complexes. The NCCIH notes that curcumin is often combined with piperine.(NCCIH, Turmeric)
We do not know which approach, if any, FlowNerves uses. The brief names no piperine and no special delivery system. That matters twice. If absorption is low, the 95% figure says little about what reaches your blood. If a high-absorption form is used, the liver caution below weighs more.
What the studies cover04
Is there research on turmeric and nerves?
Very little for adults who take it by mouth. The NCCIH says "we don't know enough to definitively conclude" that turmeric or curcumin is beneficial for any health purpose, and its summary of studies covers fatty liver, osteoarthritis and blood lipids, not neuropathy.(NCCIH, Turmeric)
The clinician section of the Memorial Sloan Kettering page mentions one pediatric trial in which curcumin was linked with less nerve injury from a chemotherapy drug.(MSK, Turmeric) That is one trial, in children, in a setting unlike ours. It is not oral supplement advice for adults.
Turmeric is a well-known plant with a long history in food. That history is not a nerve trial. For this capsule, the honest status is "named, 95% extract per the brief, no amount, no nerve evidence."
Cautions05
What are the safety cautions?
The cautions are more concrete than the benefits. Three stand out.
- Blood thinners and similar medicines. Memorial Sloan Kettering says not to take turmeric supplements if you use warfarin or other blood thinners, which may increase bleeding risk, and lists aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, indomethacin, tacrolimus and certain chemotherapy drugs.(MSK, Turmeric)
- Liver injury. LiverTox rates turmeric a well-documented cause of clinically apparent liver injury, usually starting 1 to 4 months in, with most cases linked to high-absorption forms. Most people recovered within 1 to 3 months of stopping; some cases were severe.(LiverTox, Turmeric)
- Kidney stones. Supplements raise the risk, so tell your providers if stones run in your family.(MSK, Turmeric)
Common effects are milder: nausea, reflux, stomach upset, diarrhea or constipation.(NCCIH, Turmeric)
Fatigue, nausea, poor appetite, dark urine or yellow skin or eyes while taking turmeric are reasons to stop and call a provider.(NCCIH, Turmeric)

See packsA reasoned caution06
What about the gallbladder?
A small randomized study of 12 healthy volunteers found that curcumin at 20, 40 and 80 mg made the gallbladder contract by 34%, 51% and 72% at two hours.(Rasyid 2002, curcumin and the gallbladder) No source we read tells people to avoid turmeric on that basis, so the next step is our reasoning rather than a rule.
If you have gallstones or a bile duct problem, a contracting gallbladder is a reason to ask a clinician before taking turmeric. The MSK page does not discuss the gallbladder at all, which is why we flag it as inference.
Before you buy07
Who should check with a professional first?
Ask your pharmacist or prescriber if any of these applies to you.
- You take warfarin, aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen or another listed medicine.
- You have liver disease, gallstones, bile duct problems or kidney stones.
- You are pregnant or nursing, because the NCCIH says supplements may be unsafe in pregnancy.(NCCIH, Turmeric)
- You are having chemotherapy or take tacrolimus.
- You have surgery planned. Tell the surgeon about every supplement.
Never stop a prescribed medicine because of a supplement. Tingling in the hands and feet should be tested for diabetes and low vitamin B12 first.(NINDS, Peripheral Neuropathy)
Label reading08
What does the FlowNerves label tell us?
The seller lists turmeric extract fifth, and we cannot say that is a weight order. No milligram figure is printed, and we have not seen a Supplement Facts panel. The bottle front says "PREMIUM FORMULA", "NERVE SUPPORT*" and "30 CAPSULES".
When your bottle arrives, look for the amount of curcuminoids and any added piperine. If either is missing, ask the seller. The ingredients overview shows how this name compares with the other five, and the medicine safety page collects the checks in one place.
FAQ09
FlowNerves questions people ask
Is 95% curcuminoids the same as 95% curcumin?
Not exactly. Curcuminoids are a group of compounds, with curcumin the best known. The brief gives the group figure and no per-capsule amount.
Does turmeric extract help neuropathy?
We found no adult trial for it. The NCCIH says we do not know enough to call turmeric helpful for any health purpose.
Can turmeric supplements harm the liver?
Rarely, but the reports are well documented, usually within 1 to 4 months of starting. Stop and call a provider for dark urine, yellow skin or poor appetite.
Does turmeric thin the blood?
Memorial Sloan Kettering warns that it may increase bleeding risk with warfarin and other blood thinners. Ask the prescriber before combining them.
Does FlowNerves contain black pepper extract?
The seller's brief does not name it, so we cannot say. Piperine is often added to raise curcumin absorption.
Is turmeric extract safe in pregnancy?
The NCCIH says supplements may be unsafe in pregnancy. Ask a physician first.
